ಸಮಯವೇ ನಿಂತಹಾಗೆ
ಆ ಊರಿನಲ್ಲಿ,
ಆ ಸಿಹಿನೀರ
ನಡುವಣ ದ್ವೀಪದಲ್ಲಿ...

ಆ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಪುತ್ರ ನದಿಯ
ತಟದ ಜನರ ಮೇಲೆ,
ಜನಜೀವನದ ಮೇಲೆ,
ವೈಷ್ಣವ ಧರ್ಮದ ಪ್ರಭಾವ!

ಅಲ್ಲಿಯ ಜನರು ಮತ್ತವರ ಜೀವನ
ಬಲು ಅಪರೂಪ, ಬಲು ಸುಂದರ,
ಬಲು ಸರಳ, ಬಲು ನಿಧಾನ,
ಆಲಸ್ಯವಲ್ಲ!

ಸೈಕಲ್ ಮೇಲೆ ಹೊರಟ
ಮಹಿಳೆಯರು, ಪುರುಷರು,
ತಮ್ಮ ತಮ್ಮ ಕೆಲಸ ಮುಗಿಸಿ,ಬರುವರು,
ಸಾತ್ವಿಕತೆಯ ಮೂರ್ತ ಸ್ವರೂಪದಂತೆ!

Time seems to have paused
In that village,
In the sweet waters
Of the island in the middle...

On the banks of the Brahmaputra river,
The impact of Neo-Vaishnavism
On the lives of the people,
On their way of life!

The people there, and their way of living,
So rare, so beautiful,
So simple, so slow—
But not lazy!

Men and women on bicycles,
After finishing their work, return,
Like the very form of purity!
