Kāśī (Kaashi) is an ongoing body of work that has gradually become a personal enquiry into life. Time spent living in the city brought me into conversation with questions that extended far beyond photography, questions of loss, devotion, impermanence, memory and what it means to live
with awareness.

In Kāśī, these questions are encountered through everyday life rather than extraordinary moments. The river, the streets, music, rituals, labour, silence and the constant movement of people reveal a way of living where life and death, the sacred and the ordinary, exist as parts of the same continuous experience. The city also became a place of encounter with different philosophical traditions, where different faiths coexist within the same landscape.

Photography became less a way of documenting Kaashi (Varanasi) than a way of understanding my own questions through it. This project continues to evolve through lived experience, sustained observation and an ongoing dialogue between photography, philosophy and life itself.
